Milan Maksimovic and Sam Georgis are well-known in Australia for their humanitarian work. They primarily help displaced Christians but have also aided victims of fires, pensioners, and pandemic victims. In 2021, Milan was awarded the Citizen of the Year medal for his humanitarian work in the local Western Sydney and the wider Australian community.
We spoke with Milan about the current situation, their decision to establish a political party, and a plan to run as candidates in the 2023 NSW elections.
How and why did you come up with the idea to form a political party?
“In these trying times of pandemic and economic hardship, it’s become abundantly clear to us that the interests of big corporations always come before the needs of families. As a humanitarian, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles that communities face when their basic rights to decide for their own families are threatened. That’s why we’re launching an independent list called Freedom and Justice,” said Maksimovic.
“We have heard from countless individuals that no political party truly represents the people, but only the powerful. That must change because our children deserve to grow up in a world where their voices are heard, their futures are secure, and fundamental rights are protected.”
What will be the main policies in your program?
“Our party’s mission is to safeguard and uphold the Australian Constitution, which guarantees every citizen equal rights and freedoms. Sadly, this vital document is under threat in certain states like Victoria and NSW. Our top priority is to pass the Human Rights Act on both state and federal levels, so that we can protect the rights of every Australian, regardless of their background or beliefs.
As a party, we believe in the fundamental right of parents to make decisions for their children, including choices about religion, education, discipline, medical treatment and where their child lives. We are committed to ensuring that parents’ rights are fully restored and respected.
We also believe in complete freedom of religion and the right of churches to operate without political pressure. We want to ensure that places of worship are always open and can make decisions about whom to employ, just like any other organisation. We firmly believe in protecting churches and Christian schools from indoctrination, so that we can have teachers who share our values and biblical principles.
What is your approach to politics and what sets your political program apart from others?
“We are different from all the big and small parties, firstly because all of our candidates will be people from communities who are fighting for humanitarian aid to people. We are against professional politicians who have never had a real job and have sat in parliament for 20-30 years far from the people. Our candidates will be from the people for the people, family people for families.
Also, our candidates will have to do test work with children and their work in the community will be checked. We are one of the few parties that are fighting against paedophiles and in our program, we are asking that every parent can look in any police station for registration of paedophiles and sexual criminals who live around the school their children attend. All other parties avoid this.
We are a unique party that fights for our candidates to be in parliament for a maximum of three terms to give other members a chance to serve and to prevent corruption.”
How can community members support Freedom and Justice?
“The biggest help in achieving a free future for us and our children is to join us as a volunteer and help us to inform others. You can call our office at (02) 8090 9393 to join us or to become a volunteer to help us with the elections. You can also support us with a donation that is tax-deductible for you. Join us in our fight for a more equitable and just society, where everyone’s rights are protected and respected. Together we can make a difference and build a better future for all Australians,” said Milan Maksimovic, the independent list Freedom and Justice leader.
