Fairfield LGA residents and other members of the wider Western Sydney community now have a new place to meet and socialise. The new $7 million and 841 sqm Newleaf Community Centre, called The Hub @Bonnyrigg (Dhanawi) was officially opened on Monday 13 February 2023.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the new venue will become a central focal point for all aspects of community life, with a large hall for social and cultural activities, meeting rooms, a kitchen and play areas for children.
“The Hub @ Bonnyrigg will allow people to come together to meet and celebrate, with fully accessible facilities and a community garden. We are proud to have worked together with the NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) and Landcom to design and deliver this facility for our community,” Mr Carbone said.
As part of the comprehensive Bonnyrigg Renewal Project, the NSW Government’s land and property development organisation Landcom has managed the construction and completion of the community centre, using funds from LAHC under its voluntary planning agreement with Fairfield City Council.
The Council will own and manage the new facility moving forwards.
Landcom CEO Alex Wendler said The Hub @Bonnyrigg (Dhanawi) will form the heart of the renewed Bonnyrigg estate.
“Social infrastructure such as The Hub @Bonnyrigg is crucial for any community, creating vibrant and inclusive spaces where people can get to know their neighbours,” Mr Wendler said.
Landcom’s mission in the NSW Government’s Bonnyrigg project is now finalised, added Alex Wendler.
“The opening of The Hub @Bonnyrigg represents the end of Landcom’s involvement in the redevelopment of Bonnyrigg and I am incredibly proud to be leaving on such a high note.”
Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone said The Hub @ Bonnyrigg is a much-needed facility for this area given the growth that is happening around it.
The Hub @Bonnyrigg is a part of the earlier stages of the NSW Government’s $855 million Bonnyrigg renewal. This state-significant urban project is now moving into its next delivery phase through stages 8 to 11, which will see the delivery of 275 more homes, including 65 new social homes for Western Sydney.
“The transformation of the Bonnyrigg Estate is a major 30-year project that will be delivered over 18 stages, creating 4275 jobs and delivering homes for more than 9000 residents”, the NSW Government announced in its recent press release.
