The William Inglis Hotel is an iconic name in Sydney’s West. Throughout the January school holidays, they put on a star-stopping show for families: a local cinema night designed to bring excitement and fun to a family night out.
The William Inglis Cinema Under The Stars event featured a large outdoor cinema screen, movie-themed snacks and a dress-up competition with staycation giveaways. The evening welcomed 200 guests that were treated to a charming and magical screening of Encanto. Six-year-old Evelyn says:
“I love Encanto! Wow, look at the big screen!”
With a storm that settled into the afternoon fairly quickly, the William Inglis Hotel was able to accommodate an undercover area that allowed all the guests to stay dry and entertained all night, with the bonus element of surround-sound thunder!

Guests were excited and grateful for this opportunity and proved that even in poor weather, fun events can always go ahead at a big property with plenty of event spaces to adapt to last-minute changes in mother nature.
It was a delight to witness the outstanding entries in the dress-up competition. Participants impressed the judges with their inventive DIY costumes and uncanny resemblances to movie characters, competing for a chance to win a staycation at the William Inglis Hotel’s sister property, The Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains. The top prize was awarded to the enchanting guest who donned a stunning Encanto ‘Pepa’ costume.
There was lots of excitement and activities, including a popular sing-along to ‘We don’t talk about Bruno”, followed by lots of “when’s the next one?” from the little movie-goers. There were lots of hip movements and dancing hands, along with plenty of dress-ups from the attendees. With the bonus of fairy floss, popcorn, and lolly bags – everyone settled in to enjoy the cinema under the stars.
“It was a great night for families to enjoy”, said Rebecca Wilson, Director of Sales & Marketing at the William Inglis Hotel.
“The team worked around the storm perfectly to ensure everyone was safe and happy and we heard a lot of ‘the surround sound is awesome’ comments. People loved the popcorn and fairy floss and there was so much dancing and singing along. We can’t wait for our next one.”
The next Cinema Under the Stars is in the April 2023 School Holidays, on the prominent grounds of the William Inglis Hotel. Please, refer to their website for further details.
